==== Overview ====
From malvertising to cryptomining, scams and malware on the internet are abundant. They can be challenging to combat even for those of us who are technically savvy, which means that members of our community who struggle to understand technology are most often victimized by these attacks. Malware, phishing, and scams also disproportionately affect the poor, who tend to have older devices that can't get the latest security updates, or are using Android phones which tend to be more vulnerable. Accessible digital security is paramount to helping our communities protect their privacy. This week, we'll hear from Harlo Holmes, Director of Newsroom Digital Security at Freedom of the Press Foundation. Harlo will walk us through common internet scams and malicious software, and will give us practical advice for preventing these attacks and keeping sensitive data secure.

Harlo Holmes is the Director of Newsroom Digital Security at Freedom of the Press Foundation. She strives to help individual journalists in various media organizations become confident and effective in securing their communications within their newsrooms, with their sources, and with the public at large. She is a media scholar, software programmer, and activist; and contributes regularly to the open source mobile security collective The Guardian Project.
